Book Design: Mah-jong 1966-1976

Client: Futurniture/Modernista
Graphic design: Oskar Glauser & Anna Lenskog
Author: Salka Hallström Bornold

A book about the clothes firm Mah-Jong (1966-1976) who were strongly opposed to the Vietnam war and Sweden’s seamstresses low wages. The designs stood out for their bold colours, soft fabric, unisex ideal, ethics and politics. Mah-Jong didn’t give a face to the Swedish youth revolution but it certainly gave a look it. And for this it was either loved or hated.

The book was part of an exhibition ‘Pret-a-protester’ which was produced in cooperation with The Textile Museum in Borås and toured Sweden until the end of 2005.
